Technical Information: Current Carrying Capacity

The current carrying capacity depends not only on the terminal design, but also on the application of the terminals.

The pertinent specifications for the devices, e.g. DIN EN 60 335 / VDE 0700, should therefore be considered. As a general rule, terminals are designed in such a way, that they can support the currents according to DIN VDE 0298 Part 4, Table 6, column 6, as the "rated connection capacity".

However, in the case of terminals for printed circuit boards, the cross-section of the soldered connection also has an influence on the current carrying capacity. The details in the catalogue therefore refer in part to DIN VDE 0298 Part 4, Table 6, column 2. Other current carrying capacity values may be permissible as a result of the other conditions, e.g. printed conductor thickness.
