With "the free coupler", WECO extends their plug-in connector series 110-M with an adapter, which allows wire-to-wire connection to be realized. Two pre-assembled wires, already equipped with plug connectors 110-A with screw, screwless or IDC technology, can quickly be interconnected by using the coupler adaptor 110-M. This adapter can be used for applications where sub-assemblies manufactured at different locations must be connected on site or at a different facility. An additional usage is connecting wires over a longer distance within an assembly or for short-time diagnosis purposes to be quickly connected and disconnected. The main advantage of the adapter application becomes apparent with the connections are frequently disconnected and reconnected. From the view of reliability, junction points are always potential problem areas. Soldered joints are particularly endangered. A soldered connection can break easily due to the frequent loosening of the connection and the associated mechanical load. If a permanent connection is desired or the coupler finds use in a vibration-loaded environment, the adaptor versions with lateral flange elements should be used. These anchor the parts to each other as well as to their corresponding counterparts which are likewise equipped with flanges. The coupler is available in two variants. In the standard variant, the attached plugs face to each other. With an ascending pole marking, the first pole of the plug connector meets the last pole of the opposite plug connector. The reverse variant, with -R extension (for "reverse") can be used with plug connectors with identical pole marking. To avoid incorrect plugging the coupler offers coding possibilities on both sides. Its small dimensions (3,5 mm pitch) as well as its reliability make this adaptor the "bridge" to a super connection.
